Importance of Clamps in AB Cable System

Pulished on Apr. 29, 2024

Suspension Clamp, Service Clamp, Anchoring Clamp, Tension Clamp & High Tension Clamp are some of the crucial components of the AB Cable System. This blog helps you understand the material used for manufacturing, technical features and advantages of various clamps.

Aerial Bundled Cable (ABC) is a new concept for power distribution. It delivers improved safety and reliability, lower power losses, voltage stability, and ultimate system economy by lowering installation, maintenance, and operation costs, compared to the traditional bare conductor OH distribution system.

Axis Suspension Clamps for Insulated Neutral Messenger Systems consist of a body, a movable link, and an adjustable lock. This item is used in conjunction with a pig-tail hook or bracket to suspend and grasp the insulated neutral messenger of an LV-ABC system without destroying it and using an adjustable lock that accepts a variety of cable sizes.

Importance of Clamps in AB Cable System

Different Clamps of ABC System:

Suspension Clamp (Insulated Management System)

Suspension clamp is also known as suspension fitting or clamp suspension. It is made to suspend the cables or conductors to the pole/ tower.

The clamp works with a variety of cables and conductors. The ABC cables are suspended from the suspension clamp at various angles, providing sufficient support and protection.

The material used for manufacturing Suspension Clamp:

  • Body: UV and weather-resistant, high strength engineering plastic.

  • Movable Link: UV and weather-resistant, high strength engineering plastic.

  • Lock: UV resistant, high strength engineering plastic.

Technical Features and Advantages of Suspension Clamp:

  • NFC 33-040 and other international standards are met or exceeded.

  • Long life, safety, cheap maintenance, and lower lifetime cost are all advantages of this product. Engineering plastics give increased insulation, strength, and work on live lines.

  • Installation is simple and requires no tools. The design allows for easy turning in congested situations by facilitating longitudinal and transverse movements.

  • Bracket Feature:

  • It has aluminium alloy with high strength and is corrosion resistance.

  • M14 or M16 bolts or 20x0.7mm SS straps are used for mounting.

  • The suspension clamp is kept from turning over thanks to an incorporated metal stopper.

Application of Suspension Clamp:

  • Suspension clamps keep the conductor safe immediately at the point of installation.

  • It ensures a safe and viable mechanical connection, accomplished by proper longitudinal grip control.

Service Clamps

Service Clamps for Insulated Neutral Messenger System (SAM) is used in conjunction with a bracket or other supporting hardware to strain the insulated service conductor of an LV-ABC system without causing damage to the cable's insulation. It connects service lines to homes or for street lighting.

  • Body and Wedges: UV resistant, high strength engineering-plastic.

  • Bail: Stainless Steel.

Technical Features and Advantages of Service Clamps:

  • Exceeds NFC33-042 and other international standards.

  • Can withstand harsh environments, resulting in an extended life, safety, low maintenance, and lower lifetime costs.

  • Has engineering plastics that provide insulation, strength, and the ability to work on live lines without additional tools.

  • Two clamps with a bracket for large-angle assembly allows easy turnings. Captive Design Clamp with a bracket for straining saves time and money during installation.

Bracket Feature:

  • Heat-resistant with M14 or M16 bolts or 20x0.7mm SS Straps for mounting.

  • It is possible to mount up to 6 Service Clamps.

Anchoring Clamps

Anchoring two or four core insulated bundled wires with equal cross-sectional areas is done with  Anchoring Clamps for Self-Supporting System (ACS). The clamp is bolted together and prevents damage to the cable insulation.

The material used for manufacturing of Anchoring Clamps:

  • Clamping Plates: Galvanized steel

  • Wedges: UV and weather-resistant, high strength engineering-plastic

  • Bolts: Galvanized steel

Technical Features and Advantages of Anchoring Clamps:

  • Can easily sustain the load of the cable size accommodated.

  • It accepts a variety of wire sizes and has no replaceable parts, making inventory management easy.

  • The wires are inserted easily due to the spring mounting.

  • Withstands harsh circumstances, resulting in an extended life, safety, less maintenance, and a lower total cost of ownership
