Porcelain Line Post Insulators

Product Description

Post insulators are a type of high-voltage (HV) insulator designed according to IEC, ANSI and other standards, and they are used in power systems up to 1100 kV.

The pillar insulators are made of a single piece of porcelain or a composite material (silicone rubber). Due to their excellent mechanical properties, pillar insulators are used in a wide range of different applications.

In distribution and transmission lines, post insulators are also known as line post insulators.

Depending on the design, there are five types of line post insulators: bollard top line posts, vertical clip-on top line posts, horizontal (stud-mounted) clip-on top line posts, horizontal (gain-base) line posts and support post insulators.

When used as a connecting top post on power lines up to 69 kV, it is secured to the conductor by a top wire and replaces the traditional pin insulator.

The insulator has a clamp unit at the end for fixing the other 4 types. The pole insulator support conductor can be mounted horizontally on the pole or vertically.

In substations and related applications, post insulators are also referred to as station post insulators. A station post is typically installed in a vertical position to protect transformers, switchgear and other related components. It is subjected to bending and compression forces in service. Two or more insulators can be assembled together for higher voltage applications.

Specification

We produce Tie–Top Line Post Insulators, Horizontal & Vertical Clamp Top Line Post. Usually, the horizontal & vertical clamp top line post assemblies for ratings 25 kV through 35 kV. All Line Post Insulators are manufactured in strict compliance with ANSI standards , these insulators offer excellent mechanical strength as well as electrical characteristics.

What makes post insulators well suited for their role in transmission lines?

Specific characteristics of pillar insulators include:

- High mechanical strength: Pillar insulators are subjected to bending, compression and torsional forces. The insulator must have high mechanical strength to overcome these forces. Otherwise, it is easily damaged and more expensive to replace.

- Robust and puncture resistant: Exposure to the vagaries of nature can expose the insulator to the risk of damage from punctures.

-Made of porcelain and alumina ceramics: The material used to make the insulator must not only be strong enough, but also pure insulator. This is why alumina ceramics are used, as they rank quite high in terms of insulating properties.

Porcelain is also a perfect insulator and does not emphasize its great strength.

- Flexible creepage distance: The post insulator should have a proper creepage distance that does not compromise the integrity of the insulation path. This distance prevents tracking.

Before you purchase post insulators, check to make sure they meet the relevant global standards.

As with other transmission line accessories, post insulators should be designed and manufactured to meet the minimum standards of IEEE, IEC and NEMA. These standards define the quality of insulators.

YIPENG as one of the well-known manufacturers of pillar insulators in China. We manufacture insulators that meet global standards.

FAQ

What is a post insulator?

A post insulator is a high voltage (HV) insulator designed according to IEC, ANSI and other standards for use in power systems up to 1100 kV.

Where are post insulators used?

Pillar insulators can be used on transmission lines or in substations.

Pillar insulators used for transmission lines are also known as line pillar insulators and in substations as station pillar insulators or busbar pillar insulators.

What are the typical characteristics of pillar insulators?

High mechanical strength.

Robust and puncture resistant.

Made of porcelain or composite materials.

Flexible creepage distance

What are the main differences between pillar insulators and pin insulators?

The main difference with pin insulators is the field of application. Post insulators are most suitable for high voltage transmission lines.

What tests should be done on column insulators?

Routine tests: electrical routine tests, mechanical routine tests, visual inspections and compliance checks.

Sample testing, insulators randomly selected from a lot should be subjected to dimensional verification, temperature cycling test, mechanical failure load test, etc.

Type tests, thermomechanical performance tests.

Dry lightning shock and wet industrial frequency withstand voltage tests.

All tests are carried out in accordance with the relevant standards and supplemented by specific requirements.
